WEATHER AND METEOROLOGICAL IMAGES

"Sundogs" A rare event in the Southern Hemisphere, this is the first such event that I have seen in
over 30 years in Tasmania.

The halo and bright spots either side of the Sun are caused by unusual weather conditions in the atmosphere.
Sunlight passing through
hexagonal ice crystals which are horizontally aligned. Only seen when the sun is
near the horizon up to 40 degrees altitude.

This weather pattern preceded a week of very wet weather.

Photographed August 2005
