The 12" Telescope Mirror
I had my 12" mirror re-aluminised
in readiness for the Pluto occultation (June 13, 2006). It looked OK on the
normal front-on view in the scope. However, against the light - all was
revealed, severe deterioration after 5 years. The mirror is always covered
when not in use. Curious the deterioration is greatest around the outer
edge. This time round it has been quartz overcoated. SM
