A Casablanca AVIO video editing machine (computer) was used to capture
some lunar video to see how well MPEG 2 compression compares to AVI files.
MPEG 2 is a better file format for video and in fact is the basis of high
quality DVD production. I used my 4" Takahashi scope as usual - 2x Barlow
with the Sony Exwave CCTV colour camera and recorded via the Y/C camera
output straight into the Y/C AVIO input. I then exported a 30 second clip
to my PC via a Pinnacle DC30 Plus analogue capture card as Y/C input. I
selected a couple of the best frames, combined them in Photoshop and here
is the result. The image has been reduced in size and saved as a medium JPEG
file for the website.
The shots of Copernicus below are taken with my Nikon Coolpix 995.
