Greg Burns is an active amateur astronomer and is currently the vice president of the Astronomical Society of Tasmania. He has been the AST Southern Observing Section Coordinator for 9 years and for that duration has conducted educational activities in the state of Tasmania. These activities include teaching Adult Education Courses in astronomy and astrophotography, giving talks and audio-visual presentations to school and community groups, and operating the AST 8" observatory and telescope and the University of Tasmania 16" telescope both located at the Canopus Hill observatory near Hobart. He provides listeners in southern Tasmania with a monthly astronomy update on ABC radio 936.
