MOON AT APOGEE AND PERIGEE




Left hand side Moon image photographed in May '08 and larger right hand side Moon photographed in Jan' '09 May Full Moon was furthest away from Earth Moon for 2008....astronomically termed Apogee... approximately 406403 kms away from Earth January Full Moon was closest for 2009 ....astronomically termed Perigee... approximately 357497kms away from Earth 48906kms the difference and approximately 14% apparently larger in January. On average, the Moon is at a distance of about 385,000 km from the center of the Earth. The Moon has an elliptical orbit making this responsible for the apparent size difference. Exact same equipment used to photograph both images. 100mm refractor and 6.1 mp digital Pentax camera.
